STAYING SAFE ON THE INTERNET- READ THIS FIRST
You may not want your abuser to see what you are viewing on the internet. So that you stay safe when viewing these pages, click on the EXIT BUTTON at the top of the page if you are disturbed. This will instantly take you to the BBC website.
Remember, it’s not just about covering your tracks now, as the perpetrator may try to trace what you have been doing on the web later. Click here for more information on how you can make it harder for them to find out what you have been doing and to keep yourself safe.
If there is an immediate threat of violence:
- Phone 999 or get someone else to phone the police immediately
- Move to a safe place, try to avoid the kitchen and stay near a door
- If you can, get out!
Think ahead
If you are not in immediate danger, but think you may be at risk in the future, keep the following things in a safe place where you can find them easily:
- Family and friends’ telephone numbers
- A spare set of keys for the house or car
- Cash for a taxi, bus or train
- A spare set of clothes for you and anyone else who may live with you
- Essential documents such as your passport and bank details
- A plan of where to go and how you are going to get there
- Essential things e.g. medicines
