Tackling hate crime
A hate crime is defined as an incident which you or someone else believes is motivated by someone else’s prejudice or hatred of you because of your:
- race, colour, ethnic origin, nationality or national origins
- religion
- sex or gender identity
- sexual orientation
- disability
It can include verbal abuse, damage to property, graffiti, threats or physical attack. It is a criminal offence to commit hate crime.
We take hate crime extremely seriously. If you are a victim of hate crime, you should
contact us immediately. We will work with Greater Manchester Police in order to resolve the problem. It is very important that you contact us as soon as possible as we have powers to take emergency action against perpetrators of hate crime.
Once we have your complaint, we will aim to interview you within 24 hours.
