Equality impact assessments

We undertake Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs) on all new policies, procedures and working practices to guard against any potential discrimination and to promote equality. We have also developed a three year EIA timetable to assess all existing policies, procedures and working practices.

EIAs are a way of making sure our staff think carefully about the likely impact of their work and take action to improve services.

We are required to undertake EIAs in accordance with equality legislation for race, gender and disability. We have gone a step further. Our EIA toolkit extends beyond the requirements of the law and includes all of the seven strands of diversity included in our Equality and Diversity Strategy, namely:

  • Race
  • Gender
  • Disability
  • Sexual orientation
  • Religion and belief
  • Age
  • Caring responsibilities
