Can I take part in an estate walkabout?
Every month your Community Housing Officer will be out and about in part of the area that they manage to look at all sorts of issues that affect your estate.
From looking at untidy gardens and communal areas to checking for abandoned cars and fly tipping, their role is to ensure that your estate is a pleasant place to live. Estate walkabouts normally last about 2 hours.
For these walkabouts to be as successful as possible we encourage people living on the estate to join us. This is to help us undertake a through inspection and to ensure that we are aware of as many issues as possible. We can then either contact tenants if they are breaking their tenancy agreement, get our caretakers to undertake some works or liaise with another council department to ensure that they are fulfilling their responsibilities.
If you want to join us then we do ask that you let us know at least 2 days in advance. You will need to contact us and we will let you know where the walkabout will start from. It is important that you let us know if you want to come so we know how many people to expect and also that we can let you know if there is any change to the inspection. You can let us know by phoning us on 0161 686 8000 or e-mail us at enquiries@sixtownhousing.org
What will you do about my neighbours untidy garden?
Gardens that are overgrown or filled with rubbish are unsightly and can put people off moving to the area. If a garden near you is causing problems that please let us know about it by contacting us.
A Community Housing Officer will visit the tenant and assess how bad the problem is. Depending on the problem with the garden we will talk to the tenant and give them a timescale in which to clear the garden. If they don’t do this we can do the work ourselves and charge the tenant.
If the garden does not belong to a tenant we can report it to the Environmental Health Department who can get involved and order the occupier to clear it up if it is a hazard to health.
Will you get rid of graffiti?
Graffiti is unsightly and offensive. It puts people off moving into an area and can contribute to decline in estates. We are determined to remove it quickly. We will remove it form council property within 5 working days or within 24 hours of it being reported to us if it’s racist, obscene or abusive.
