Buildings insurance

Bury Council insures the building where you live. This is because it is still responsible for the upkeep, repair and maintenance of the structure and shared areas of the block. Your insurance premium is included on your annual service charge invoice.

If you need to make a claim, you should first contact the Insurance Section of Bury Council who will send you a claim form. You can do this by telephone 0161 253 5000 and ask for the insurance section or by post to Bury Council. You can either return the form to Bury Council or send it direct to Zurich Municipal. Please remember to take a copy of the form before you send it.

Under the terms of your buildings insurance you are entitled to access a 24 Hour Emergency Repair Service for:

• Immediate practical advice in the event of a home emergency;
• Access to a network of authorised repairers in the event of an emergency; and 
• Reporting a claim outside normal office hours.

The Emergency Repair Service can be contacted on 08000 159 329. Please note that this service is not provided by the Council or us.

If a repair is done under these circumstances and is a valid claim, the insurance company will settle the repair costs. If the repair is not part of a valid claim you will be responsible for the full cost charged.

If your property is left unoccupied for 30 consecutive days or more, you may not be insured for damage or loss which occurs. You should contact the Insurance Section of Bury Council prior to the property being left empty for advice.
