DIY success!
Date: Friday 27th January, 2012
Wednesday 25 January 2012 saw the first Six Town Housing DIY sessions held at Brandlesholme Community Centre and Library.
Tenants from the Brandlesholme community were invited to attend either a morning or evening session and we were really pleased to see a cross section of the community attend. Simon Horrocks, an operative at Six Town Housing, carried out the sessions and gave the tenants plenty of opportunities to get “hands on”.
Ellie Scothern who attended one of the sessions commented : “The session was relaxed, informative and very useful. I learnt a lot from it.”
These were the first sessions of many that we plan to hold in our neighbourhoods across the borough. We are also planning to look at painting and decorating, as well as plastering.
Whilst we carry out responsive repairs to our properties, there are certain repairs that are the tenants’ responsibility. These DIY sessions will hopefully be an opportunity to provide our tenants with the skills and confidence to carry out these basic repairs.
Wayne Campbell, Business Manager, Repairs and Maintenance, explained that “we have listened to our customers who told us that they wanted to learn basic DIY skills that will enable them to carry out small tasks around their home. We are really pleased to be able to respond to this by providing free of charge sessions, using our own repair operatives. Feedback from the sessions has been excellent and we are now going to build on this when we roll it out to other areas.”
