You may have seen recent media stories in relation to a fire in Lakanal House in Camberwell, London. We would like to assure you that Six Town Housing have been and will continue to assess fire safety within our housing stock and will take action to protect you and your homes as much as possible. Six Town Housing’s Health and Safety Advisor says “We are closely following this incident and will work to take any additional action that may be required once the full cause of the incident becomes available.”


It may also reassure you to know that we do not have any high rise buildings within our stock and therefore the scenario which occurred at Lakanal House could not be replicated within Six Town Housing’s properties.

We would also like to remind you that during 2009, we will also be addressing some of the issues that have arisen from our fire risk assessment visits of communal areas. Generally, anything that will burn easily such as paper, wooden furniture and anything that can cause a tripping hazard needs to be removed.

You cannot use the communal areas to store personal possessions, for example bikes, mobility scooters and prams.

It is part of our policy that all our homes should have smoke detection within the properties. If your property does not have smoke detectors, please contact us on 0161 686 8000 and we will arrange for these to be installed.

Please remember that these fire precautions are being taken to keep you safe. It may take some time for us to get around all the schemes, however, if you feel there are items causing a danger, please let us know and we will prioritise our visits accordingly.
