Keeping the streets of Radcliffe clean
Date: Friday 13th November, 2009
Two estates in Radcliffe held estate clean ups during the school half term, along with a planting session.
Dumers estate secured funding from O2 to purchase cleaning equipment and planting items for their event. The 2 skips were filled within hours and over 30 children turned out to help clean. The TRA split the children into groups and took them round the estate picking up litter and sweeping. They filled 15 bags of rubbish!
This was followed by a planting session, where the children had the opportunity to plant some bulbs in pots and take them home. They also made up additional pots for the elderly, which were delivered by the tenants and residents association. All the children were rewarded with a goody bag.
Bolton Road Tenants and Residents Association also embarked on the same type of event, concentrating on cleaning up the large field on their estate. They even enrolled the help of the local cubs and beavers in getting the area cleaned up. The planting proved very popular and all the children who got involved received a goody bag as a thank you.
Funding from this event was secured from the Community Involvement Team Grab-a-Grant fund.
Both these events were very successful and the TRA’s worked extremely hard organising and planning the events. So a big well done to them.
