Switch to Direct Debit - It's the easy way to pay your council rent.

What is a Direct Debit

A Direct Debit is an authority from you to pay your rent automatically each month straight from your bank or building society account.

Why pay by Direct Debit?

  • No cheques to write
  • No cash, paperwork or postage
  • No queuing at the post office or cash office
  • You can plan your budget more easily
  • £1.00 will be donated to charity for every new payer
  • All Direct Debit payers will be entered into quarterly prize draws to win £150 shopping vouchers - £250.00 shopping vouchers at Christmas

When can I pay?

We offer a choice of Direct Debit payment dates.  Choose from:

  • 1st of each month
  • 10th of each month
  • 20th of each month

How do I change to Direct Debit?

Ring Six Town Housing on 0161 686 8000 and set up your Direct Debit over the phone.  Please make sure you have your bank account details to hand.

Alternatively,
1. Print off the following form Direct Debit Mandate
2. Complete your form as accurately as possible - remember to sign it!
3. Return your form to us as soon as possible

We need at least 4 weeks from when you apply to process your request. During this period, you must continue to make payments in the normal way.

You will receive a letter from us 10 days before the first payment, confirming how much your Direct Debit will be and when it will start, then you need to stop paying by your current method.

The Direct Debit Guarantee

Direct Debit guarantees an immediate refund in the unlikely event of an error occuring.
You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your Bank or Building Society. Please also send a copy of your letter to us.

You will always be advised at least 10 working days in advance of any changes.

Some points to remember

There must be enough funds in your bank or building society account to cover your rent payment when we ask for it

  • If there is not enough money in your account, your payment will be rejected and you will be in arrears
  • If this happens, we will cancel your Direct Debit and ask you to pay in another way.
