Former Tenant Arrears
Former Tenant Arrears
If you used to be a Council tenant and you owe rent arrears, you are still expected to pay us what you owe. To make an arrangement to pay your arrears, please contact us on 0161 686 8000. If you have former tenancy arrears (FTA) and fail to make/keep to an agreement to pay, we will refer the debt to our partner debt collection agency, Rossendales Ltd., to recover. We may also try to recover the debt through the County Court. If we do this, this could affect your credit rating, so it is important that you do not ignore FTA. You could also incur additional costs.
If you have a complaint or comment about former tenant rent arrears, you can let us know using the online form.
- Many people leave our properties owing rent because they have not given us the required notice to terminate. Your Tenancy Agreement requires you to give us at least 4 weeks notice to terminate your tenancy. Even if you hand in your keys before this period ends, you will still be charged rent for the full period.
- If you have arrears when your tenancy ends, you must make an agreement with us to repay them.
- Please ask us for a final rent account balance when you hand in your keys. This may be subject to change if you have been in receipt of Housing Benefit or support payments.
You can repay your former tenant arrears in exactly the same way as your rent. Please click here for full details of how to pay.
If you owe us FTA, we will not normally offer you further rehousing in a Council tenancy.
