Repairs and Maintenance
About the Repairs Service
Previously all repairs were carried out by Bury Council. In April 2008, the Repairs and Maintenance Team was integrated into Six Town Housing. The team is based at Bradley Fold Depot and they deliver the following services:
- Routine repairs
- Empty property repairs
- Planned Maintenance (i.e., non-reported repairs to estates)
- Minor improvements and replacements
We also continuously look at quality in terms of materials and workmanship. The team also act as a contractor carrying out repair works to schools and public buildings; (please be assured this service will not affect your repairs).
If you need a repair to your property the first thing you should do is find out whether the repair is something we can do for you or whether you need to do it yourself. You can do this by telephoning the Repairs Help Desk freephone number on 0808 144 5368. (This telephone number automatically switches to the emergency number out of hours.)
Planned and Cyclical Maintenance Work
There are many occasions where a repair can actually be prevented with a planned response, for example, if we are aware that a number of gutters have leaked in an area, we may allocate an operative to clean or check all the gutters in the road. It may be that we group these jobs together in order to carry them out in a cost effective manner.
We also carry out longer term planned programmes; we are carrying out an electrical installation check to every property in a long term rolling programme. We have two engineers working to specific appointments, and they carry out minor repairs as they find them. These inspections will also identify properties in need of major repairs, or where a customer has, for example, fitted additional sockets in an unsafe manner.
There are also occasions where we carry out routine, cyclical works, such as gas servicing and safety checks. These are very important for both your safety, and the efficient and economical use of your central heating system.
