Abandoned cars

Abandoned cars can make an estate look run down and uncared for so we need to get rid of them as soon as possible. While our staff are out on their estates regularly, we also rely on members of the public to let us know when there is a problem.

If you report an abandoned car to us we will first need to establish if the vehicle shows signs of being abandoned. This could include being told that the vehicle has not been used for a period of time, there is no tax disc or perhaps there may be broken windows or parts missing from the vehicle. Once we are satisfied that the vehicle appears abandoned, we will report it to the Council’s Highways Department.

The Council’s Highways Department will deal with the removal of the vehicle under the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978. To do this a notice is placed on the vehicle requesting the owners or user to remove the vehicle within 24 hours if it is a wreck, or within 7 days for all other vehicles. If the owner or user fails to remove the vehicle by the timescale recorded in the letter, we will arrange removal and disposal.

If you wish to report an abandoned car to us, you can do so here (this will take you to the Council's website).

Graffiti

Graffiti is unsightly and offensive. It puts people off moving into an area and can contribute to the decline in an estate. We are determined to remove it quickly. We will remove it from council property within 5 working days or within 24 hours if it’s racist, obscene or abusive.

If you wish to report graffiti to us, you can report it here.

Trees
Picture of tree
While trees can make an estate look green and mature they can also cause problems if they become dangerous.

Should you be having a problem with a tree that is in or near your garden, maybe on a footpath outside your home, you
can report it here.

We can then pass this information onto the Customer Services Department at the council and an inspector will visit and report back and tell you if any work is to be done to the tree. The Customer Services Department have 20 working days to report back to you.

The priority for dealing with trees is to tend to those that are dead, diseased, dying or dangerous. These trees will be given a high priority and be dealt with first.

For other problems with trees, a waiting list is held.  These trees are given a priority and added to the waiting list. It can depend on the amount of requests and the money available as to how many of these trees have work carried out on them.

It is important to also note that the council does not have a duty to prune a tree back if it is blocking light and while this work may be added to the waiting list, it would be given a low priority.
