Do you owe rent?
Unless otherwise agreed, your rent is payable every week. All rent is due in advance for the week ahead.
If you are having difficulty paying your rent, there is lots of help available. It’s important you
contact us straight away to discuss the matter and to arrange a repayment plan. We can also check if you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to, or you can do this yourself by using the
online benefits calculator (this will take you to Bury Council's website).
If you are in arrears, we will make an agreement for you to pay an affordable amount each week until the debt is cleared.
We may also be able to help you with other debts. We have trained staff who can give you debt advice, help you prioritise your debts and contact the organisations you owe money to, such as banks, debt companies and door collectors. They may be able to arrange for you to make smaller payments until you get back on top of things. Call into one of our surgeries or contact us for an appointment.

If you don't tell us you've got a problem, or if you don't keep to an agreement to pay off the debt, we will take legal action. This could lead to your eviction from your home.
We may not offer you another property if you are evicted because of rent arrears.
