What is a TRA?

A Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) is group of local volunteers who work together to make positive changes in their area, create community spirit and improve resident's quality of life.

Why should I get involved?

Are you passionate about where you live? Then why not set up or join your local TRA to:

● Share ideas and work in partnership with Six Town Housing and other agencies to make improvements to local services.

● Attend and help organise social events and activities (such as youth clubs, gardening schemes, clean up days, etc), which can be a great way to get to know your neighbours and improve community spirit.

● Bid for funding to make improvements to your community.

● Gain fantastic work experience, learn new skills and gain a sense of satisfaction through volunteering

“Since our community have come together to tackle local problems, we have seen marked improvements on our estate. Our committee gets together at our lively and friendly meetings to address any issues, organise community events and to make our estate an enjoyable place to live. My neighbours are now new friends and we have a strong community spirit which we intend to keep.”

How to start a tenants group

We help groups get off the ground and provide support along the way with advice, free training, DBS checks. Please contact us for help and guidance.

Constitutions

All TRAs are required to have a constitution. A constitution is a basic set of rules that TRAs must have to be recognised and to apply for funding. It covers the aims of a group and gives guidance on how a group will operate. Help will be given to new groups to develop a constitution. Click here to view our model constitution.

Funding

Six Town Housing provides funding to help constituted groups with day-to-day running costs, for example photocopying, stationery, postage, venue hire, travel expenses and refreshments.

Community Grant - We have a Community Grant that groups can apply to, for community projects that benefit our tenants or communities. Informal groups, eg gardening groups can also apply for this grant for small scale projects. Click here for a Community Grant application form. Click here for the Community Grant Guidance Notes.

Transformation Fund - In 2022/23 we had a one-off Transformation Fund for community groups, faith groups, charities and schools to apply for projects that helped transform and have a positive lasting impact on our neighbourhoods and tenants. Here is a list of projects that were awarded funding:
