A community champion who works to support a neighbourhood in Radcliffe managed by Six Town Housing has joined celebrities and figures from the arts, sciences and charities on the New Year’s Honours list.
Dorothy Wood, chair of Abbey Close Tenants and Residents Association (TRA), is receiving the British Empire Medal for her services to her community in Radcliffe.
With over 40 members, the group responds to community issues such as anti-social behaviour and organises regular activities to prevent social isolation.
TRAs play an essential role in supporting communities across the borough, providing a voice for local people, bidding for funding and working closely with Six Town Housing and other local agencies to influence decisions about services available to residents.
Sharon McCambridge, Chief Executive at Six Town Housing, said, “We’d like to congratulate Dorothy for this much deserved achievement. As chair of the TRA, she has played a key role in identifying the needs of her community and finding ways to respond to these, making improvements for the benefit of everyone living there.”
