Bury Be Kind to Yourself – Self-Compassion Blog

Bury Be Kind aims to show the importance of being kind to others and how actions of kindness or harshness can affect others. However, how we treat ourselves can have a huge effect on how we treat those around us.

Self-compassion is the ability to extend compassion to yourself during times of struggle and self-doubt. People who practice self-compassion can forgive themselves for mistakes without being a hard self-critic. Beating yourself up can be easier to do than you think but there are a few benefits of being self-compassionate that can help everyone in their day-to-day life, including:

  • Increased happiness
  • Increased motivation
  • Better resilience
  • Reduced mental health problems

We’ve collected some tips on how you can practice self-compassion:

  1. Treat Yourself as You’d Treat a Friend - Imagine your inner voice as a friend who’s always there for you; what would they say during tough times? How would they comfort you? Would they speak kindly or negatively?
  2. Hug Yourself - Self-touch such as hugging yourself, rubbing your hands together, or massaging your head are ways you can be more compassionate to yourself. Research shows that self-soothing touches can reduce stress levels.
  3. Give a Gift to Someone –Studies show that giving to others brings us joy and satisfaction. Gifts don’t need to cost a lot either, even just doing something kind for someone else can be a gift.

Self-compassion can help us be kinder to ourselves and in turn, be kinder to others, so why not give some of our tips ago and help Bury Be Kind.
