A series of family friendly information sessions taking place across the borough in the school holidays launched in Radcliffe this week.

Six Town Housing’s Summer Roadshow features free entertainment for children and useful information stalls for tenants and residents living in the homes and communities they manage on behalf of Bury Council.

170 adults and children attended the event, which took place on Red Bank field on Tuesday 23rd July. Children enjoyed free face-painting, a bouncy castle, reptile handling and a variety of competitions, while parents and other attendees could pick up DIY tips, report repairs and more.

This year the events are themed around the 100th Anniversary of Council Housing, including an exhibition showcasing some of the borough’s housing history along with stories submitted by tenants. The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Trevor Holt, delivered a speech marking the occasion and greeted attendees, including tenants who appear in a video compilation of council housing memories screened on the stall.

A number of Six Town Housing’s contractors and partners also brought games and spoke to residents, including a stall offering advice around housing and homelessness hosted by Bury Council. Also in attendance were the council’s Older People Staying Well team, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Greater Manchester Police, gas contractor SURE and painting contractor BAAS, who ran a decorating workshop.

Two Radcliffe community groups, Red Bank Tenant and Residents Association and Corrie Gardeners, hosted a tuck shop and plant stall to help raise funds for local initiatives.

Sharon McCambridge, Chief Executive of Six Town Housing, said, “Our Roadshow provides fun days out for local people, while showcasing the great work of community volunteers and promoting a range of useful services for those living within our neighbourhoods run by ourselves and partners.”

The Summer Roadshow will be visiting Hoyles Park (Bury) on 30th July, Victoria Park (Whitefield) on 6th August, Powell Street (Bury) on 13th August and Venwood Road (Prestwich) on 20th August. All events run from 1pm until 4pm. Find out more at www.sixtownhousing.org/summerroadshow
