Free meals are now available for local families and individuals on a low income or in receipt of benefits at Chesham Fold Community Centre in Bury.
A free breakfast club takes place every Wednesday and Friday morning between 8am and 8.45am, where children can choose from a selection of toast, cereal, fruit or cereal bars while adults can grab toast and a beverage.
Adults on a low income, including more vulnerable residents and the homeless, can also access a free meal on Tuesdays between 1pm and 2pm. Meals will change each week, including dishes such as curry, casseroles and soups. Attendees must register in advance and advise of any allergies.
The meals, which are suitable for vegetarians, are being provided by Chesham Fold Tenant and Resident Association and the non-profit Seven Stones Organisation.
Ms Qadar, founder of Seven Stones Organisation, said, “We run these meals as we know it can be difficult in this day and age for some people working on a very low income to know where their next meal is going to come from.”
Sue Smith, a volunteer at Chesham Fold TRA, said, “We don’t think that people should skip meals or children go to school hungry in any circumstance, so hope these mealtimes provide a support to those in our community who may need it.”Back to news
