This May we are celebrating National Walking Month. This year, you are encouraged to #Try20 by walking for 20 minutes each day during May.
Walking is an easy and accessible way to improve physical and mental health and a 20-minute walk can reduce the risk of a number of preventable health conditions, including certain cancers, depression, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.
By swapping a short drive for a short walk, you can also help reduce air pollution, congestion and road danger - whilst saving yourself some money and getting active in the process!
Want company for your walk?
Greater Manchester Walking Festival takes place in May. You can find many options, from easier routes like Elton Reservoir and Canal Circular to more challenging routes like Holcombe Brooke. Head to the Festival page to find out more, and join other people for fun walks around Greater Manchester.
Other tips to get you moving
Living Street is a charity whose mission is to achieve a better walking environment and inspire people to walk more. Visit their campaign page for inspiration – you have a chance to win a £200 and £50 shopping voucher when you enter their draw.
Want to step-up a gear and start running?
It’s time to sign-up for a run in September 18th – Bury 10K and 10 mile run and Family Fun Run are all taking place on this day in Bury. Why not get motivated to start running ahead of the events? Put your running shoes on and head to these pages to sign-up:
