The pandemic has had a massive impact on the incomes of many people. If you have experienced a drop in your income, we in Six Town Housing’s Rents Team are here to help and can offer advice so you can get back on track.
Payments Plans
One way we can help is by setting up payment plans. Setting up agreed payments with us will help you to manage your money so you can stay in control of your account.
Even if you have rent arrears, we can help you set up a manageable payment plan that you can afford so that you get back on track with your payments.
You can arrange to pay us monthly, fortnightly, or even on multiple days. We will arrange the plan around what suits you and your pay-days.
Managing payments can sometimes be tricky if you have never had to budget before, but we are here to help you to do this.
Benefits
Our Rents Team can also advise you about benefits you may be eligible to receive to make sure you keep on track with your rent payments and ensure your tenancy is secure. We have helped many of our customers to claim the benefits they are eligible to receive, and we can help you too. You can check out whether you are eligible for any benefits here.
If you are on benefits and are under occupying your home, you may not receive the full amount to pay all the rent. You are responsible for paying the under-occupancy charge but may want to consider moving to a smaller property if you cannot afford to do so.
See Bury Council’s information about the under-occupancy charges here.
Other support agencies
The following agencies offer free services to help you get back on track. We don’t advise you pay for help to sort out your debt problems without seeking independent advice.
The Citizens Advice service for Bolton and Bury can offer advice and information on a range of subjects, including finance. View Citizens Advice information and help relating to problems with rent and money issues here.
The Money Advice Service provides guidance and advice on money matters and can assist with debt problems. They can offer a web chat facility tailored to your needs. Find out more and contact them here.
