Steps To Success (S2S) has been commended by the Mayor of Bury, Cllr Mike Connolly, after he met with several council housing residents from Bury who have used it to access apprenticeships and work placements.

The Mayor and his Consort took the opportunity to speak to 11 tenants who had received support and took time to listen to each individual’s “success” story; how they took the step from being unemployed and struggling to find work, to picking up an apprenticeship or permanent employment.

S2S is a service delivered by Six Town Housing. Since 2013, S2S has helped 71 residents access work placements and 21 access apprenticeships. 57 residents have gained full time employment and 35 have picked up part time employment following support, which also includes training and voluntary opportunities.

The Mayor said, “Finding yourself unemployed or unable to enter the job market can be very isolating. S2S provides a bespoke helping hand to those living in Bury’s council housing when they need support and by meeting some of the apprentices I’ve been able to hear first hand just how much they value this.”

Sharon McCambridge, Chief Executive at Six Town Housing said, “We are immensely proud of every one of our S2S people, some of whom have faced some real challenges trying to get into employment and shown a real commitment to making positive changes to their lives.”
