Mayor of Bury meets council tenants who have accessed free employment support

Six Town Housing’s tenant training programme, Steps To Success (S2S), was commended by the Mayor of Bury, Cllr Stella Smith, after meeting with several tenants who have used it to access apprenticeships and work placements.

The Mayor and her Consort took the opportunity to meet and greet 10 tenants who had received support and recognised their individual successes by awarding them with certificates of achievement, taking time to speak to them about their experiences. (Watch a short video clip here).

Since 2013, S2S has helped 17 tenants into apprenticeships and 62 into work placements. It has helped 1022 tenants access learning courses and 390 access voluntary opportunities.

The Mayor said, "Congratulations to all those have found themselves stepping on to the jobs ladder with S2S assistance, I enjoyed hearing some of your success stories. For those who find themselves out of work or cannot enter employment for various reasons, it can feel like the whole world is against them. S2S demonstrates there are people who can help and will help those who require support."

Sharon McCambridge, Chief Executive at Six Town Housing said, “S2S continues to go from strength to strength and we are immensely proud of all our tenants who have taken up training opportunities and apprenticeships through Six Town Housing and our partners.”
