Water feature at Waverley Place.

A new gardening club has been set up at Waverley Place in Radcliffe by residents, to help look after the communal garden, grow vegetables and make the garden more enjoyable so everyone can enjoy it in summer.

Owen, who has been a resident at Waverley place for 7 years, said that it was initially a small garden with rose bushes, daffodils and crocus’. He took it on himself to add further plants grown from seed or provided to him.

Each year Owen expanded the garden to the point where it was a decent size in front of the communal lounge, with a sensory garden, water feature and more. Last year the garden won one of the categories in Six Town Housing’s annual Gardening Competition.

Owen was approached recently by another Waverley Place resident, Jim, who suggested starting up a gardening club. With help from Six Town Housing’s Marie Hamer, the group now has six members who hope to work on gardening together and bid for funding to continue making improvements.
