Two tenants on the Polefield estate in Prestwich recently had their kitchen and bathroom refurbished by new contractor, Emmanuel Whittaker (EW), as part of a pilot to agree standards and specifications before work commenced on a further 42 properties in the area.

The tenants, Mrs Gill Sanchovitc and Mrs Olive Westhead, were happy to be the pilots and overjoyed at the results.

Mrs Westhead said: "Myself and my son are extremely happy with the new kitchen they have provided for us. All the lads were brilliant throughout the work and Louise and Mark always kept me informed of what to expect throughout. Thank you all very much."

Mrs Sanchovitc said: “We are really pleased with the kitchen and bathroom works. The kitchen is transformed and I feel like I have had the best early Xmas present. Please pass on my thanks to everyone who has worked in my home. It’s been a great experience!”

EW gave both tenants a poinsetta plant to say thank you for agreeing to be the pilot homes.

The estimated completion date is March 31st.

The improvements are part of a larger programme of work on homes by Bury Council, managed on their behalf by Six Town Housing. It is part of a £12 million investment by the Council in their housing stock. This investment will bring the properties beyond the decent homes standard and supports one of the objectives of the Council's Housing Strategy 2014-24 to maintain quality, affordable social housing as part of a range of housing options in the Borough.

All scheduled work can be found on Six Town Housing’s website here.
