We have recently announced the winners of our photography competition, Our Bury 2020.

The competition encouraged tenants to capture their community and how they have worked together to overcome challenges this year. Photos received have then been added to a gallery on social media to document these moments for future generations.

Four winners were selected at random out of 13 entries received from across the borough. The winners, who will receive a £25 online shopping voucher each, were:

Heather Higson

Tracey Shaylor

Ann Pearce

Charlotte Taylor (for a photo of Chapelfield TRA's craft week, featuring local young people with homemade masks).

A wide variety of entries were submitted, showcasing how the Bury community has bonded and overcome difficult situations. The entries included photos of volunteers working at Radcliffe food bank and a birthday party with social distancing during lockdown. One of the winners, Heather, had been working with her granddaughter, helping vulnerable and isolated people.

Winner Tracey Shaylor, from Bury, submitted a photo of her niece, Sophia, who she has been working with during the pandemic on arts and craft projects including the pictured ladybird house. She said, “I feel it’s been a sign of the times, home schooling and connecting with nature again. Sophia has shined throughout the different lockdown craft projects.”

A spokesperson from Six Town Housing said, “Thank you to all entrants for helping us capture a moment in time in homes and communities we manage on behalf of the council. It’s great to see how people have been finding ways to stay positive despite the many challenges."
