Six Town Housing are running various Christmas parties this month at their retirement living schemes to help tackle isolation. Community Development Workers, tenants and Bury Council’s Care at Home team will be organising activities across the borough.
The first event of the season took place at Moorfield in Radcliffe recently had a festive flower arranging afternoon. The tenants created their own flower arrangements, to give as a gift or keep as decoration, which was followed by a chat with mince pies and refreshments.
The Talk To Me Café, which is based within Clarks Hill in Prestwich, are running their own Christmas buffet as well for residents. Forever Manchester have donated £200 towards funding the event.
A spokesperson from Six Town Housing, said, “Isolation can be a problem for the elderly, especially at Christmas time, so organising these parties is a great way for the tenants to get together with each other. There will be festive food and entertainment for everyone to enjoy and we hope this will give them a chance to make some new friendships. It’s always great to see the tenants with smiles on their faces.”
