The Reopening of Avondale Play Area

Last month, The Avondale play area was officially reopened by the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Tim Pickstone, after residents of the area suggested the improvements to Six Town Housing.

We asked the Residents in the area about what improvements they would like to see and with the help of the ideas and suggestions, the play area was transformed into a modern accessible play area for the local children. Residents were joined by Six Town Housing staff, Councillor Kevin Peel, and The Mayor of Bury, who officially opened the play area.

Staff at Six Town Housing arranged an afternoon of activities for all the family. Refreshments were available as well as face painting and bird box making with The Woodies, a local group who promote wellbeing in men through learning new skills and helping others. The children made over 30 bird boxes that they took home to put in their gardens.

Kevin Singh, Community Development Worker, said, “The residents seemed very happy about the new play area and the children didn’t let the wet weather put them off trying out the new equipment. It was a brilliant afternoon for everyone who came down.”
