Ellie Redfern, Trainee Community Support Worker, has started running weekly art workshops with the tenants and residents at Redbank and Peachment Place.
The workshops aim to promote good mental wellbeing and explore their creative interests so they can learn techniques they can use in their own time if they take painting on as a hobby.
Ellie joined Six Town Housing in May as part of the government funded Kick Start Scheme which aims to help young people into employment. Art has been a hobby of hers for years and she thought it would be good to use her skills to bring residents together after they’ve had to isolate for so long. At the moment, Ellie is teaching the tenants how to use water colours and over the next few weeks, they will be exploring a range of paintings including flowers, landscapes, silhouettes and more.
Ellie said, "To be able to share the skills I’ve learnt with other people has been a joy. I love the ladies and gents at Red Bank and Peachment that come down to have a good chat and give painting a go! They all make lovely artwork themselves. It's been a very nice class to teach, and I look forward to other arts and crafts classes I can give to them in the coming weeks and months."
