Bury has a carbon-neutral target of 2038 and this means we need to decarbonise not only our buildings and energy sources but also how we go about our daily lives.
In response, last year Bury Council have created a Climate Action Strategy and a linked 2021 Bury Climate Action Plan to reduce our emissions, promote sustainability, improve air quality as well as the health and well-being of our communities. Find both of the documents from the Council’s website here.
Together with the Council we are in a process of improving the energy efficiency of our estates and is working with the GMCA as well as our neighbouring Local Authorities to see how we can reduce emissions more efficiently and effectively.
Only by working together will we reduce our impact and tackle the climate emergency. We would like you to get involved! We are inviting local groups, residents, businesses, and students to get involved.
Environmental Forums are already established in Whitefield and Prestwich and if you live in these areas we’d recommend getting involved with their projects. If you live in Bury North (Ramsbottom, Tottington, North Manor and Elton), Bury East (Bury Town Centre, Redvales and Moorside), or Bury West (Radcliffe and Church) and would be interested in getting involved or leading on the establishment of these Forums please get in touch with the Climate Action Team at Bury Council.
