Accessibility

Six Town Housing would like to provide a website that is accessible to all and if you have any suggestions for making further improvements please let us know.

We aim for the website to conform to Level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, the international, governing authority on web development standards and practices. The W3C guidelines describe how to make web content more accessible and conformance to these help to make the web more accessible to users with disabilities and benefits all users.

Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non compliance with the accessibility regulations

1. Some tables in content (especially in PDF documents) do not have table row headers when needed. This means assistive technologies will not read the tables correctly. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).
2. Some tables do not display properly on mobile devices and require the use of left and right scrolling or using the device on its side.
3. Images on some pages do not always have suitable image descriptions. Users of assistive technologies may not have access to information conveyed in images. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
4. Some pages cannot be found through more than one type of navigation. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.5 (Multiple Ways).
5. Some documents have poor colour contrast. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.1 (Use of Colour).
6. Many documents are in less accessible formats, for example PDF. Non-HTML documents published on or after 23 September 2018 must have an accessible format.

When we publish new content we'll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.

Note: There will occasionally be some images which are very temporary and contain information not needed to access Council services (for example, statistical data presented as graphs and charts) may not be compliant. Please contact us if you require such information in an accessible format.

Many documents are not accessible in a number of ways including missing text alternatives and missing document structure.

Using a keyboard to navigate our website

If you have restricted mobility you might find it useful to use a keyboard to navigate our website instead of your mouse. Our website has been designed to be useable with the following keyboard commands:

• Tab: move to the next interactive item (such as link, button, input)
• Shift + tab: move to the previous interactive item
• Arrow keys (up, down, left, right): navigate within some page component
• Enter: interact with items on the page

Images throughout the website have been assigned alternative text describing the contents or function of the item.

Portable Document Format (PDF) files

Our website contains a number of PDF documents which can be accessed by clicking on hyperlinks. To view a PDF you may need to download Acrobat Reader first, which is free to install.

If you have an online account

If you wish to delete your online account please email housingenquiries@bury.gov.uk 

This means that you will no longer have access to the tenant app. Your tenancy will not be affected.
