A 20 year old from Bury has picked up a second award this week for his achievements as an apprentice at Six Town Housing.
Ryan Smith was recognised as Apprentice Of The Year at the National Federation of ALMOs Awards in Birmingham on 19th April, a ceremony that celebrates social housing tenants, communities and the work of the organisations that manage their properties. Ryan already picked up the Rising Star accolade at The Prince’s Trust & Samsung Celebrate Success Awards last November.
Ryan accessed his Digital Marketing Apprenticeship through Six Town Housing, who manage social housing on behalf of Bury Council, as part of their Steps To Success employment programme.
He was initially offered a 6 week work placement within the organisation, assisting with marketing and communications activity. His positive attitude and video production skills then led to him accessing a two year apprenticeship at the company.
Ryan said: “I can’t believe how much my life has changed since gaining my apprenticeship at Six Town Housing. They have changed my life massively. Before I was unemployed, had no routine and no money. Now I’ve two awards, a career, a life and everything to look forward to.”
Sharon McCambridge, Chief Executive at Six Town Housing, said: “We are so proud that Ryan has been recognised at the awards, he is really making the most of his apprenticeship. He is an excellent ambassador for our employment programme and a great example of some of the fantastic young people living in council housing across Bury.”
